A thematic album dealing with the plight of Aborigines in Australia, Diesel and Dust contains Midnight Oil's most focused and compelling music. Its single most impressive song, "The Dead Heart," works powerfully, both as agit-pop and as moving rock music. Also included is the anthemic hit single "Beds Are Burning." (Originally released by CBS Records Australia in August 1987, Diesel and Dust was released on Columbia Records in the U.S. in January 1988.)
