Diesel and Dust

"White Australia's land debt to Aboriginal neighbours is not usually the stuff of perky pop, but it's something Midnight Oil manage on the crashing, chorus-heavy "Beds Are Burning." It opens the group's seventh album in glorious fashion and by the time it finishes, you too will demand whatever it is Midnight Oil want. It's perfect agit-pop and there will always be a place for it. Giant singer (although not their lyricist) and qualified lawyer Peter Garrett's voice burgeons with righteous anger throughout Diesel and Dust as he tackles pollution, world disarmament, the monarchy and native peoples everywhere. It sounds heavy going and occasionally it is, but Garrett's passion and the band's willingness to make their concerns accessible seize the moment."
